  1. This conference seems interesting. It is only two days so attendence and participation are absolutely mandatory. I tried to get the whole day off tomorrow but the principal did not bite. Late afternoon classes and sessions do not agree with me. Researching four articles and writing about them should be challenging.

If the sessions are like other conferences i attended it should be fun. It is just being confined in a classroom bores me. Alot of times i get bored being a teacher. So i plan to apply things i learn at this conference. I teach math and differ my assessments of students. Same with accountability - each student is different.

  2. Beside being late, I am quite impress with the topics that were discussed. I believe everyone involve with education at all level should acquire the necessary knowledge of assessment and accountability. Our changing world demands a lot to our growing population. Without the right tools, our growing population will be nonproductive.

Therefore, this course reinforce educators, administrators, and stakeholders that we all play a part. Our success depends on our quest in providing skill and career learning in resolving cultural, and economic differences. We must work as a unit and not deviate from the vocation of educating our student population. Accountability and assessment are tools that truly governs all public servant for the benefit of our island community.

  3. As accreditation chairman I look forward on intergrating what I will be learning fron this course and to share and collaborate with other teachers on the different assesments they have used in thier classroom and what has promoted the most positive results on student learning.
Since our school is starting to apply the concepts of PLC this course comes at a right time for me. What I am particularly intrested in finding out is how the other secondary school address the ESL and SPED population.

  4. Hi, this is so interesting to have a conference on assessment and accountability! Plus, this is my first ever of using a blog. I will get my picture sometime tonight as I just came home and was so fired up over this class. I really should start with the journals, but decided to check this site and see where everyone was at.

I wish we had more conferences on Guam. The expense to go off island cost more in airfare than the conference! Plus, I get to meet all of you. I get to "blog" instead of call you on the phone - talk about technology. I am sort of glad that tomorrow we go in the afternoon, after school. I did a quick search on google and this is what I got. . .

The term “assessment” will be used to describe the process of determining what students know and how well they can apply it. Assessment involves making a judgment; to make assessments, educators rely on a variety of tools, including tests, homework, participation, projects, and other indicators. The term “test” will be used to describe an activity in which students demonstrate what they know and what they can do.

    Assessment and Accountability
Traditionally, classroom assessment and school/district/state accountability assessment have been separate and exclusive processes. The purpose for each type of assessment is different. The purpose of classroom assessment is to provide teachers with the necessary information to gauge student progress and assign report-card grades. Classroom tests are designed to measure how well students learned what was taught. Teachers record grades for a variety of student work, including tests, homework, and projects. The teachers assess all their information and calculate an overall grade for each student. By the end of the term or school year, the teacher should have a clear understanding of what each student knows and can do.

Accountability tests are designed to give school leadership and policy makers a means to evaluate the effectiveness of the system’s curriculum and instruction. Accountability tests are typically given at a single point in time during the school year, usually in the spring. Standardized norm-referenced achievement tests (NRTs) are popular accountability tests because they compare local students against a national sample. Typically NRTs have been entirely “bubble tests,” or tests with machine-scored multiple-choice response formats. Machine-scored tests are relatively inexpensive to use; however, they are only effective if the content tested corresponds to the content taught by the classroom teachers. The match between what is taught and what is tested is known as “alignment.”

Perfect timing for this class since the SAT10 just were released!

  5. Here are my initial thoughts regarding this course. As for full and active attendance, I’m already sold on this. I like the format—both the face-to-face aspect and the cyberspace part of it. I’ve made arrangements with my family to block off the days I have to work on this, secured the technological side of it, and I’m committed. Tomorrow and Saturday, I will be present and ready to take notes at the conference. I’m unfamiliar with the presenters, so I look forward to seeing what they have to offer. Let’s say I have an open mind at this point.
As for preparation and participation, I found and downloaded seven following articles from EBSCO. It was easy and fun to find them! I feel I’m back to graduate school. I purposely chose readings that cover the whole spectrum—from elementary to postgraduate. I chose one particular article because I know one of the co-authors personally, namely Patricia Edwards who is currently the President of the International Reading Association. Of course, the fact that I am a language arts teacher and hold a Master’s degree in Reading directed my choices, too.
As for preparation and participation, I know this is going to be work but I like challenges. I think I’m making progress in preparing and I’m participating as I type away.
Finally, since I haven’t had the opportunity to be a researcher in quite a while, my professional reading for this course and the interactions with the rest of the classmates will allow me to step out of the practitioner’s role and re-enter a world I left in 1994, after earning my master’s. As a teacher, I’m confronted on a daily basis with being accountable and being able to assess learning situations and students. It’ll be fun to have the opportunity (albeit brief) to step back and read, ponder, and reassess some of the things I have been doing in the classroom for nearly 20 years.

  7. This post is by Florence C. (using my husband's gmail account):
My initial thoughts about attending this SOE Conference course were that I would be able to 1) obtain recertification credit at an outstanding rate and 2) it aligns well with my job responsibility which is to oversee Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

Not only have I rearranged my schedule so that I can focus on the sessions for the next two days, I have also mapped out which presentations I would like to attend for Friday and Saturday based on my interests and what I could possibly gain from each presentation. Therefore, full and active attendance in the conference sessions will not be an issue.

Preparation and participation for meeting the course requirements will probably be my biggest hurdle given that my days are filled with departmental meeting obligations, commitments to chaperone after-school activities, preparation for November 1st Professional Development Day, and not to mention familial obligations like attending my son's after school programs and activities. Reworking my schedule for the next two weeks will not be impossible but it will be difficult. I had already made previous commitments prior to the announcement and my signing up for this course but I must now prioritize. For example, I will no longer be able to attend the Superintendent's State of the Public Education Address tomorrow night at 6:00 PM at Southern High --which was pretty much mandatory for all administrators. I hope they understand.

The completion of the course requirements as far as the written reflections and article reviews will not be much of a problem because it is something I enjoy doing. Configuring a way to meet the requirement for applying strategies/ techniques in the classroom is something I must focus more energy on. I will see how I can meet this requirement given the adjustment to the assignment.

I feel assured that I will grow professionally with the knowledge and skills that will be shared at the conference sessions and interacting with other learned professionals registered for this course. I look forward to the interaction and communication regarding assessment and accountability.

I wish I had the program to figure out what I'm going to attend. I guess it's going to be my first item on the agenda tomorrow when I get my folder.
P.S.: Sorry for the "Mrs. Griffin said..." I have a blogspot with my students and forgot to change my profile name to Grace Griffin.

  9. Florance, I hope the Superintendent understands our absence! I smiled over all the tasks that come with admin and having a family. I look forward to all the sessions and will map out how Agueda Johnston Middle School teachers and myself can cover the sessions and interact at our school level!

By the way, how did you get the conference sessions? Just asking so that I can plan accordingly.

  10. Dr. Rivera,

I just noticed the stamp-time for posts -- I am a bit concerned -- my post shows 2:39 AM -- and I know it is 7:50 PM on the 21st. If we are to meet "Cinderella" hour, and knowing I just might be one of those Cinderellas -- is there a way to readjust the time?

Regarding the already posted comments: There is no replacement for the interactions that take place between professional educators from various school districts at conferences. Although the cost is enormous, it is usually very beneficial. Imagine the benefits of networking within our district, across grade levels -- then compare that to interacting with others from State-side schools. I look forward to meeting the "non-local" registrants at these sessions.

  11. The session presentations were emailed by John Quinata along with the initial announcement flyer for this conference. If you post your emails, I can forward the session agenda (at least the draft version) I have to all of you. It helped me for my planning.

  12. Raymond, I believe this conference will be a blast on the work we're doing at school.I wonder whether obtaining the valuable exchange of experiences and methods will eventually immortalize us at our institution... We are biting one as a true educator.

  14. Participating and attending the conference will fulfill a certification requirement. Fortunately, the assessment and accountability theme is one that I am interested in. Hopefully, through the conference I will continue to build upon my repertoire of effective strategies and practices.
It is my intent to complete all course requirements with the support of my spouse since he will be taking on a few of my responsibilities for the next two days. This temporary change will be a monumental task.

  15. I am excited about this conference since everything is dealing with assessments and accountability nowadays. I am supposed to be at the Superintendent's State of the Education Public Address at Southern High because I am part of the committee and all administrators are expected to attend. But since my role in the committee is pretty much all set, so I already to my fellow committee members that I will not be able to make it. Also, I am also attending the DODEA professional development day tomorrow at Naval Hospital and its from 8 to 3:15 but since we have to meet by 2:30 I be leaving the DODEA conferent by 2pm to meet at the lecture hall.I feel that this is a rare opportunity I can't pass and to be able to have this type of conference that deals with one of the major of challenges in our school system even in the nation at large. I am hoping to obtain new ideas and strategies that will be applicable to my role as a school leader.

As a school leader, I am also very happy that Dr. Rivera scheduled the contact hours that is convenient for me (I think for most of us). I intend to complete the course requirements by balancing my time and prioritize. Since my role as a school leader requires all our time during school hours to run a school, I will ensure to set aside my weekends and nights just to concentrate in this course.
I will be identifying teachers that will be able to assist me in applying the strategies by Monday so that we can device a plan. I will also work very closely with my principal since we are both taking the course.
I am also glad of the flexibility that Dr. Rivera is allowing us to work during our own time to do our articles and we don't necessarily have to be in the library. It will actually save me time and gas to drive all the way to UOG when I can already work right away when I get home.

Overall, I hope that the conference will provide useful information and tools that I can be able to use in order to assist my teachers in being more accountable with student achievement.

  16. As I reviewed the flyer on Assessment and Accountability, it had immediately caught my interest. This is the topic that school leaders really need to keep abreast with constantly in order to address the need to improve student achievement. I look forward to acquiring more insight on the topic from the various speakers and sharing some input with fellow colleagues. As a life long learner,to research articles to read and reflect on is always useful as educators. I am always seeking innovative ways for instructors to collaborate and dialogue consistently about assessments and to share best teaching and learning practices within their professional learning communities. I hope to attain the course requirements in order to impart and apply the knowledge acquired with fellow educators.

  17. Wow! I'm finally on. Todays' tasks and time management has been a great adrenaline rush. Three kids, a great husband, 90 teenage students, a class council to keep inorder and dinner to fix has been very adventurous. However, I love the challenge. It keeps the heart "beating."
As for the up-coming conference, I look forward to gaining wonderful information on current research studies for assessment and accountability in education, listening to personal and professional experiences and acquiring new assessment and accountability strategies in education.
This conference provides local educators the opportunity to develop colleagueship with international educators who have studied and are well knowledgable with assessment and accountability in education for many years.
Within the duration of the conference I plan to take as many courses as time allows me to. In preparation my husband and I have shifted our aggressive daily routines and work schedule to meet the needs of our children and this conference/3 credit class.
At the end of the conference and 3 credit course I will have increased my assessment and accountabily scope in education in which ultimately will increase student Achievement in my classroom.

  18. I'm just learning how to properly blog. I'm trying to locate the "comment" icon of other bloggers so I can respond, but no luck. I hope this is sufficient.
Grace/Rose--I too wish that there will be more local conferences available for teachers and staff. Not just short Professional development days offered at the school site. August to June is the best time to offer mandated conferences, not summer.
Raymond--I agree that this conference will be beneficial for accrediation. Southern High School was just granted 3 years accrediation,
assessment and accountability is what teachers are now learning to focus on to show "what students have learned, how they are learning and how they have progressed."
Janice--We are both fortunate to have understanding and supportive husbands.

  20. I thought that class was very different from any other class I have ever attended before; I am looking forward to doing this blog "thing" This is going to be FUN, FUN, FUN!
It is also going to be a lot of work! Good thing , I'm not afraid of hard work.

  21. I was under the assumption I would only need to attend the conferences and write some reflection papers to earn three credits. Geez. I was wrong. As the saying goes: when you make an assumption, you make an ASS out of U and UMPTION! I haven't written journal critiques and attended a class at UOG in nearly ten years. This may be the kickstart I need to start my grad courses. The plan is to try to learn what I can from the conference, my fellow classmates, and offer my own input, if I can get up the nerve. So, eat a good breakfast, bring a bottle of water to the workshops and a Snickers, just in case!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I also origionally took this class for recertification and I thought it was just having to write reflection papers and then earn the credits but as Dr. Rivera asked us to think about what we expect out of this course (conference)I really wasnt sure. Given the growing body of knowledge about the impact of effective teachers on chileren, it seems to me that our districts policies are beginning to acknowledge the importance of teachers in addition to curriculumm standards and assessments. We know that research has demonstrated the effects of teachers on students achievment andthese residual effects make it clear that not only does teacher quality matter when it comes to how much students learn, but also that, for better or worse, a teacher's effectiveness stays with students. Assessment and Accountabilit are very different and therefore I hope to learn more current research data.

  23. First of all, this is my first time to do blogging for a class. I finished my program last fall of 2005, and we didn't do blogging, I guess this is one way of sharing our thoughts and feelings on certain issues. I apologize for posting this late because I did not attend the pre-conference meeting yesterday.
Anyway, when I first heard about this conference it really got my attention and interest. Because as a school counselor, I also dealt with data collection, and assessment is one way of collecting data. For me, data would tell us a lot about how we do as a school community particularly in the district wide assessment we do every year. Data collected from this assessment is utilized to improved instruction and the curriculum. Lastly, I hope to learn new ways in collecting, presenting and implementing the latest trends and research in Assessment and Accountability.

  24. I was excited about the conference for I know I will learn a lot from it. Asessment and Accountability are the buzzword at the College. In fact, our department just completed "closing the loop" in terms of our 5-year course assessment. Because our programs are federally funded, we have to continously assess our programs "vertically" and "horizontally". The next step we are taking in terms of assessment is do a longitudinal study, ie. track students after they have graduated from the program. Because my ultimate goal for signing up for this course is to grow professionally, I intend to complete all the requirements and receive an "A".

    ReplyDelete
  25. Assessment and accountability seem to be two of the most neglected topics in education. Teachers, such as myself, are assessing and are kept accountable everyday, but it often goes unnoticed. Personally, my initial thoughts of the course are a route to gain an extra three credits and an opportunity to gain more insight on the topics of assessment and accountability.
As far as the conference is concerned, I have already attended the first day's sessions (Oct. 22) and plan to attend tomorrow's full day of sessions (Oct. 23) as well. I plan to be attentive and be actively engaged in the discussion process during the workshop. Furthermore, I also intend to apply what I learn through the workshops and group discussions in my actual classroom as I incorporate strategies into my lesson plan. I also plan to participate in carrying out the Literature Reviews of research studies based on assessment and accountability, in the hopes of gaining a better understanding of such topics. Finally, I intend to participate in this blog discussion regularly to meet the requirements of the course. In the end, I hope to complete all necessary objectives to obtain the desired three graduate credits to use for recertification.

  26. I enjoyed the comments made and found myself reflecting on my performance as a teacher. I use to think that I teach to test, but I have changed my attitude to teach and assess myself based on how well my kids perform. I want them to master the skills necessary to meet the grade level standards required but also evaluate my performance on meeting my objectives. It's a challenge with such a diverse class. That's what teachers need to do. Teach with the idea that these kids leave knowing that they learned something at the same time seeing that I touched those lives in some way or another. I am accountable for their learning. I look forward to continuing this conference.

  27. Like some of you, I've never blogged before! It's a good thing that my daughter is here to get me started! What a great two-for-one! I'm getting great information for assessment, AND improving my technology skills!

I usually take re-certification classes in the summer so I don't have to worry about schedules, but this course offered the content and flexibility that I just couldn't pass up!

I very much appreciate that we can do most of the work after school.

I can tell that many of you are the visionary types that look at the "bigger picture" of assessment and accountability in the district, in the future...I'm afraid I'm just thinking about how can I improve assessment in my first-grade classroom. I hope to find some articles that offer specific ways to improve my procedures right now - Ideas that I can apply to the pre and post-tests I need to make next week. Did anyone find anything helpful? Care to share? Thank you!

  28. Good Evening Everyone!
This is my third time trying to comment on the blog. I hope it works! Of course, this is my first time on a blog and setting up a Gmail Account. I'm with Rose, as blogging for the first time! Thanks to Jose...I had to call him for help!
Yes, I agree with Bobbie and Jose. I thought this was a recertification class that we just had to be participants and write reflection papers on the conferences. It was too good to be true!
Well, I'm excited to take this course because I want to know more about Assessment and Accountability. I want to absorb different point of views of classmates and guest presenters information on Assessment and Accountability. That way, I can gain more information and share the findings with my coworkers during Learning Team Meetings.

  29. I am glad that this conference is offered because my school is going through accreditation. I look forward in applying some the concepts in the area of teaching and learning.

  30. I left school/work at 3:30 p.m., arrived at 4 P.M., and missed the kick-off. I thought I was early; turns out I was late.

At first, I was hoping that this was over tomorrow. Once Dr. Rivera clarified the schedule, I got over it. I was impressed with how well organized she is. This is a little overwhelming for me, but I will try my best.

The most interesting topic that got some interaction going was when standards and accountability was being discussed. As far as the mentoring the mentors program, I noticed that most of what Dr. Hilda Montano presented is what the public school is already doing. It was like a refresher. While on the other hand Dr. Ning Li who presented statistics with excel could have used a little more time for me to better understand it.

  32. I didn't attend yesterday's meeting, because I was only informed today that there are other requirements to get the 3 credits. Shucks! It was too good to be true! It's still better than taking a 16 week class and paying $600, though.

I'm looking forward to enhancing my knowledge through this course. The conference today seemed pretty interesting. As a counselor, I can use what I've learned to help other teachers, as well as understand some of what they may be going through when dealing with students in class.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was overwhelmed with today's class overview. It was such a short notice for me to begin with because I was not informed of this part of the conference. All the information regarding the course was too much to handle for me tonight after a long day. Other than that I look forward to learning from this class and to meeting everyone.

This is my first time to do blogs and my very first gmail account as well. Just like what they say, there's always a first time for everything. One more email account won't hurt, I just hope I can remember all the password.

  34. Truly, I did not know what to expect except that I was pleased to see the University of Guam produce an educational conference for only two days aware there would be some work required as well. I was especially happy a friend filled me in on a great find of a class at such a low affordable cost. Also, I recognized the coordinator, Dr. Lou Ferrer of whose classes I enjoyed at an earlier time. I trusted this conference to be substantial allowing myself to be consumed having experienced it in Dr. Ferrer's class. Of worthy note, Dr. Rivera provided a second orientation to the class advising meticulously and efficiently on credit requirements who was sprayed with queries thoughout handled them with amazingly graciousness. I pray to win her second/third impressions which I may have lost in my frist hoping she doesn't remember. (yikes) ~,~
I was only able to catch the last fourth of Dr. Giardina's presentation and can only tell that is was current and imperitive to be aware in full for the course we are to anticipate. I do look foward to tomorrow's presentation.
I am concerned to be able to retrieve the presentations of 10-22-10's topics of which was made available to the University by the speakers, tho I would not know who to contact for them.
Attendance, prep and participation seems easy enough but am very aware of the hard work it demands with matched commitment.
I will look foward to continued information on educational assessment and accountability trends. One of the results of this course will have developed my expertise in this particular
discipline and hopefully narrow the myriad of specialty areas I can identify for myself. I already know I will not be in teaching forever but want to move into other facets.

  35. I know it's pretty late for me to post a comment under this section of the course, but you know what they say "better late than never", and I'll probably lose some points for "blogging" late. Atleast I'll earn some points right Dr. Rivera? I do agree with a lot of my colleagues...I thought it was just a 2-day meeting and some reflection papers and "BOOM" get the 3 credits for recertification! Too good to be true, huh? I am thankful though that Dr. Rivera did give me heads-up of the requirements, I didn't really feel the load until it was actually time to attend and do the work. Well, too late to back-out...the only challenge is actually managing and prioritizing my time. Anyways, I definitely intend to complete this course...attendance will be the challenge for me the most, due to professional and personal commitments. As far as the requirements, as long as I am able to do it at my own time, it shouldn't be a problem...but ofcourse to ensure that I meet the due dates.

This conference was definitely offered at the right time...well atleast for me. Both of my schools are going through Accreditation. I'm glad my principal and one of my schools' Accreditation chairperson is taking this class with me. It definitely gave us "new insights" in having a better understanding of what accountability and assessments should really be about in our educational system, but most of all it provided us more guidance on how we can maintain our accreditation rating at our schools. I truly believe that "Accountability and Assessment" validates effective teaching and learning in our school system. Being granted accreditation is definitiely one that can validate that!

    ReplyDelete
  36. The first class meeting was an eye opener to the many requirements for this class. I too agree with most of my colleagues comments. Geraldine said "I thought it was just a 2-day meeting and some reflection papers and "BOOM" get the 3 credits for recertification! Too good to be true, huh?"

Despite the initial shock, I want to thank Dr. Rivera for going over the syllabus and clarifying due dates.

  37. Attendance for the conferance was determined once I saw the article in the PDN, as teachers are always on the lookout for credit hours to keep current with our certification and because of this I will definately attend.

Just the years of teaching, continued education and experience has helped to prepare me some what for this conference but I am sure and expect to learn new tools to take to the classroom.

Completion of the course was not an initial expectation as it was not proported to be a course in the PDN article, only a "conference" but I will strive to complete the additional requirements.

Assessment in the education classroom is a important determining factor in a students growth and continued success and ofcourse teachers are very accountable to be equitable in their assessments of students, so I hope this confernce will give me tools to make me a better teacher in the assessment of students in the classroom.

    ReplyDelete
  38. WOW! This is my first time....and I'm just beginning to learn about this "blogging" thing. I'm really trying to figure this out so I can respond properly. Somehow....I will get there...I apologize for posting this late especially since I did not attend the pre-conference meeting.

Like Jose said...I, too, was under the impression that I would only need to attend the conference and submit reflection papers to earn the three credits. And, of course, that sounded "too good to be true."

I am hopeful that at the end of this conference, I would be more knowledgeable and increase my assessment and accountability performance. I believe that this is going to be something I can really add to my repertoire.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Assessment and Accountability are concepts that all educators should be proficient at and I hope this course will enlighten me as much as it has with blogging and the social uses of the interweb. I didn't attend the pre-conference meeting but I'm sure I will be a captive audience in the next couple of meetings.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Had I known about the pre-conference activities ahead of time and had it not interferred with the first class meeting time, I would have loved to have attended them.

I would have liked to attended the island tour as well -- I feel that I have missed a great opportunity of meeting and getting to know the off-island participants. The way it was presented in the agenda made me feel excluded from attending.

The only opportunity I had to speak to off-island participants was during session presentations which did not workout so good.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I found out about the conference at the beginning of the week, with our head teacher at my school saying that if we attend, we have the chance to earn 3 graduate credits for it. After registering, I was told that in order to earn those credits, I had to do much more than sit through a couple of presentations.

After a bit of thought, I decided that I would press on and complete the course because the issues that could be potentially brought up in the presentations have useful implications that I can use in my classes. As a new teacher, I am often at a loss as to how to design assessments for my students. It became clear to me early on that assessments should be tailored to the class (and to the student, especially) but I was afraid to make them from scratch because it would take much work and there would be the question of whether different assessment tools would fairly measure the same thing across different students.

I look forward to being convinced to prepare better assessment tools and to learn also from the results of my assessments. I believe I will be able to complete the coursework because a) the workshop material and their application in my classes would be useful to me, and b) my second quarter workload has been streamlined considerably, because I have learned many field lessons in classroom management and just generally being a teacher in the first quarter.

  42. Okay now, my friend finally invited me which allowed me to establish a gmail account, so i can sign in and blog, just like E said "Wow" its my first time to blog and i'm not frustrated yet!! Thanks Geri!

I too am late with my comments, but I need the credits, and some points is better than no points!, huh Dr. Rivera.

I learned about the course/conference from my colleague and initially took the course so i can gain credits for recertification only. Now that i see the course requirements, i have my work cut out for me to earn those 3 grad credits.

At this point, after the Friday and Saturday conference, i am glad that i registered and attended. The topics covered on Accreditation and Assessment were very informative as I will briefly describe in my up-coming blogs and reflect on the required reaction papers, but i enjoyed the conference and got alot of information from it.

Being in the field of education, assessment is very important in providing the teacher with pertinent data needed to evaluate the progress of students and to ensure they are learning.

With Accreditation, Kudos to the schools with full accreditation! My elem. school is not accredited and until then, accreditation is a whole separate topic for me. I do agree though that being an accredited institution gives more credit to the stakeholders at the school. There's alot of hard work required to meet accreditation standards and requirements and the accredited schools who put in that extra work deserve the credit.

No regrets for taking the course, attending the conference even if it was on a Saturday, and hopefully it can happen again for other educators who were not a fortunate to attend this one. Thanks, Dr. Rivera and UOG

  43. As an ESL coordinator, I am excited to be a part of the Assessment and Accountability conference and accompanying course. I have inherited an entire program of students that relies on accurate assessment and testing. I am excited to expand my knowledge base and strategy pool so I can focus on accountability at the work place. I feel that I can learn a great deal to enhance my professional development.
Besides my School Law Class, there should be nothing hindering me from participating fully in this conference/ course. I am eager to address the course requirements. I really want to learn how to better collaborate with my school faculty. I am also eager to research the four articles and write responses to them.

  44. I totally agree with Patrick on this course reinforces educators, administrators, and stakeholders in that we all play a part.

"Our success depends on our quest in providing skill and career learning in resolving cultural, and economic differences. We must work as a unit and not deviate from the vocation of educating our student population. Accountability and assessment are tools that truly governs all public servant for the benefit of our island community." This is so true and what we as educators strive to be.

  46. I'm always looking forward to courses being offered. It's like going back to school...you know its been awhile since I took courses at the university. I knew the course will be beneficial to me and my schools, especially the focus is on Assessment and Accountability and that's something that I truly implement at my schools. In fact both of my schools are going through accreditation, so Assessment and Accountability is something the Accrediting Team will be looking at.
